Erlik Kenenbayev was born on February 16, 1960 in the Baskunchi village of Panfilov region of Almaty oblast.
He has a higher legal education, he graduated from the Kirov S.M. Kazakh State University.
In 1985-1988 – a legal consultation lawyer’s trainee in the Novyi Uzen town, an investigator’s trainee in the Shevchenko city, senior investigator of the prosecutor’s office of Mangyshlak oblast.
In 1988-1990 - investigator of the prosecutor’s office of Sarkand region of Taldy-Kurgan oblast.
In 1991-1998 – investigator of high-profile cases, interregional environmental prosecutor, deputy prosecutor of Mangistau oblast.
In 1998-2000’s – deputy head of the Department on supervision of legality of preliminary investigation and inquiry of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
In 2000-2002 – first deputy of the prosecutor of Karaganda oblast.
In 2002-2005 – head of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 2005-2007 – deputy Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for fighting economic and corruption crimes (financial police), head of the Department for fighting economic and corruption crimes of Aktubinsk oblast.
In 2007-2008 – head of the Law enforcement and judicial systems division of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2008-2009 – deputy chairman of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2009-2012 – prosecutor of Almaty oblast.
In 2012-2014 – deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2014-2016 - head of the Law Enforcement Division of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From June 2016 – deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan
He has the special rank of major-general of financial police (2006)
He was awarded the order Dunq of 2nd class (2013), jubilee medals “10th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “10th Anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Constitution” and other jubilee medals.
