On May 20-21 of this year, the Kazakh delegation took part in the 28th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna (Austria).
Law enforcement officials from 80 states and UN experts discussed effective, fair and humane measures to prevent and combat discrimination and violence of any kind.
Making speech, the Deputy Prosecutor General Marat Akhmetzhanov reported on the ongoing reforms in the country in the context of criminal law, emphasizing the results achieved in the humanization of legislation.
He noted that in the past year alone, the complex of measures taken in this direction has improved Kazakhstan’s rating in the International Prison Population Index by 12 positions (from 83 to 95).
During the visit, the Kazakh delegation held talks with foreign colleagues.
M. Akhmetzhanov at the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yury Fedotov informed about the activities of the authorities of the Prosecutor's office of Kazakhstan for the protection of rights and ensuring public safety, and also discussed issues of further cooperation.
During the conversation with the Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Constitution, Reforms and Justice of Austria Christian Pilnachek, the latter noted the experience of Kazakhstan in evacuating its citizens from the combat zone in Syria, and also expressed the intention to continue cooperation between two countries on the basis of reciprocity.
